Japanese Tea Ceremony

Join us in the Carnegie Museum Courtyard on Saturday, October 12th at 10:00 a.m. for the Japanese tradition steeped in history. Kay Tokumoto and her students will be performing a tea ceremony.

The ceremony is a way of preparing and drinking green tea typically in a traditional tearoom with a tatmi floor. Beyond just serving and receiving tea, one of the main purposes of the tea ceremony is for guests to enjoy the hospitality of the host in an atmosphere distinct from the fast pace of everyday life..

Today, the tea ceremony is practiced as a hobby, and there are places where tourists can experience it, as well.

Tickets are $10 and available online and at the museum. The price will be $15 at the gate on October 15th. Funds received will be put towards our continuing efforts to make the Carnegie Library Building accessible to all.
