Superior Dairy

Superior.jpg

Superior Dairy opened in 1930. It was started by F. Justin Bowden. He came to California in 1907 from Virginia and worked for the Lucerne Cream and Butter Company. He started as a bottle washer, but eventually worked his way up to management. He quit to manage his own business.Superior Dairy was owned by Mr. Bowden's son, Jim, and managed by Jim's daughter, Susan Wing. The building is highlighted by the pressed metal ceilings. Except for minor remodeling within, the building is virtually unchanged from its 1929 construction.

In 2025, Superior Dairy was purchased by a local dairy family, the Zonneveld's. The family has deep roots in Kings County are investing in the facility and its history to make something special that's special for the community. It is hoped that they will be open for dining in the near future.
