On the night of May 12, 2021, a fire broke out at Hanford’s Historic Taoist Temple. The building was severely damaged and tragically many of the artifacts were completely lost.
The temple has been a part of Hanford since 1893, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The temple has been a part of Hanford's China Alley helping to mark the strong cultural heritage and contributions made by Chinese immigrants and their descendants in the community.
The costs of recovery will be great including, insurance deductible, any uninsured losses and restoration of the building and salvageable artifacts.
China Alley Preservation Society is in need of support to overcome this horrendous loss and to help restore an important landmark in Hanford.
